Don't Worry About "Perfect," Just get it Done

It’s no secret that it's very easy to fall off your fitness routine. Life happens, and it's unrealistic to expect perfection every day. Some days you'll have more energy, and other days you won't, especially when the days are short and often cold. We've all heard the old adage, " Fitness is a marathon, not a sprint."  Focusing on consistency over perfection allows you to enjoy the process and celebrate the small wins along the way.

It's easy to think that if you don't have a full 45 minutes to an hour to work out then, "what's the point?" The point is that any amount of time that you can move your body is good for your body, and we want you to get into that mindset. Rather than thinking "if I can't do the whole workout, why do it at all?", say to yourself, "I still get to move my body, and even though it is shorter or maybe less intense than I had intended, it's still worth it."

Maybe it's 5 minutes, 10 minutes or even 20 minutes, but staying on track for even just a little bit of time will help you to stay consistent.  Consistency allows your body to make adaptations, leading to progress and new levels of fitness over time.

Tips for staying consistent:

  • Set realistic goals. Having a specific, achievable goal can help motivate you to stick with it.

  • Find what you love. If you enjoy your workouts, you're more likely to stick with them. That's why BDY offers a variety of classes like yoga, barre, cycling, mat and reformer Pilates and strength training classes.

  • Don't let one "off" day derail you. If you miss a workout, don't give up. Just get back on track with your next scheduled session. One missed day doesn't erase your progress.

  • Celebrate your wins. Acknowledge your progress, no matter how small. Seeing how far you've come will help you stay motivated and dedicated.

  • Remember fitness is not a destination, it is a journey. And at BDY we can't wait to experience it alongside you!
