The Power of Connection
Author Brene’ Brown defines connection as, “The energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”
Strong social connections are linked to increased longevity and better overall health. Being part of a community that is accepting and open to differences helps us feel more human and like we are truly a part of something bigger.
Researchers from Harvard University have studied the importance of social connections and wellbeing since 1938, and more than 80 years of study continues to find that strong relationships are the best predictor of long-term happiness and health.
When you think of BDY, you might picture sweat, squats and spin bikes- but there is something way more powerful happening in our studios- community. In today's fast-paced, hyper-digital world, real human connection is hard to come by. Many of us get so much satisfaction from going to work, multi-tasking, checking off lists, and completing projects, we often don't appreciate the importance of spending time with people.
At BDY, we don't just focus on fitness- we focus on belonging. Whether you're pulsing it out in a barre class or flowing through yoga, you're never alone. You will always be surrounded by people who will show up for you and cheer you on.
We're not knocking the importance of having professional goals or checking off your lists. In fact, if it makes you happy, keep doing all the things. But while you're doing it, don’t forget to love your people, and allow them to love and support you in return.
